So far 2015 has been incredible, and February has just begun and is already amazing.  I checked competition results yesterday to find that I'd been awarded with a score of 'gold' in the prestigious Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) monthly competition.

There were 97 images submitted to the baby and bump category, there were only 2 golds awarded. One for my image of Baby Isabella, and one for fellow photographers beautiful maternity image. Overall in all categories Over 1,600 images were entered in to January’s competition and 41 photographs were awarded a Gold award.

SWPP is a very well known and respected international society created for the benefit of photographers worldwide. They hold monthly international competitions and any member of the SWPP can enter into different categories and have an equal chance of winning top prize. In the past I've done very well in the baby category, families and children and fine art.

They also hold an annual convention which I attended for the first time this January. I hope to now attend each and every year to fully benefit form my membership of the society. The convention is amazing, with many of the worlds most skilled photographers holding training session and parting with their years of knowledge and experience freely to SWPP members. The society offers qualifications and free mentoring to help you through the qualification process ... what more could you ask for.

I have been a member of SWPP since the very start of my business, I've qualified as a licentiate first of all and then as an Associate. But In 2014, I stepped away from sending my images into the competition judging, to concentrate more on the business side of things and to improve and really focus on my customer experience. This proved it's self to be very worth while; although I did miss the suspense and anticipation of competition results. It gives you the drive to keep improving. So in 2014, along the way I won several awards including The Engage award for 'best interactive business' from Mumpreneur 2014 in association with Amazon, and I was named in Aberdeen's 40UNDER40, I even landed on our local television station STV news  This year, I decided to start entering again, and I'm so delighted that my first image has won gold.

Thank you to everyone at SWPP for recognising my hard work, and commitment to deliver excellent images, thank you tothe judges who give their time to judge so many images each month,  and of course to the gorgeous little Isabella and her family - this is just one of the beautiful images the families received from their commissioned session.
